At 8:45am local time, an American Airlines Boeing 767-200 (Flight 11), flying from Boston, Massachusetts to Los Angeles, California, impacted the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City after being hijacked by terrorists. 18 minutes later, at 9:03am, United Airlines Flight 175, a Boeing 767-200 enroute from Boston to Los Angeles impacted the south tower, also as a result of terrorist activity.

The towers continued burning for approximately an hour, and twenty minutes apart, both collapsed due to structural damage sustained in the crashes.
