The aircraft, on a flight from Chiclayo, declared an emergency at 8:43am local time, while approaching the Chachapoyas Airport for landing. The aircraft disappeared from radar screens shortly thereafter. The wreckage was found on the morning of January 11, 2003 atop a hill north of Chachapoyas in an area known as Cerro Coloque, 10,900 feet above sea level.
