The aircraft was given permission to taxi into position and hold for an intersection departure. Seconds before, the Air Liberté MD-80 was given permission to depart from the same runway. The instructions to the MD-80 crew were in French, however, and were not understood by the Stream Line crew. The wing of the MD-80 sliced through the cockpit of the Shorts 330, killing the First Officer. ATC error.
