The aircraft was impacted by a surface-to-air missile shortly after takeoff from the Baghdad International Airport on a cargo flight. The flight crew successfully returned to Baghdad and landed the aircraft despite serious damage to the wing and wing devices, and the aircraft came to a stop in the dirt off Baghdad International's main runway.
