Date: 08 December 2005
Airline: Southwest Airlines
Flight No.: 1248
Aircraft: Boeing 737-7H4
Location: Chicago, Illinois [MDW]
Fatalities: 0:103+1

The aircraft [N471WN], on a scheduled passenger flight from Baltimore, Maryland [BWI], overran runway 31C at Midway Airport at 7:15pm local time in snowy weather. The flight crew reported that they conducted a normal ILS approach to runway 31C, touched down at 133kt, and had trouble selecting reverse thrust. The Boeing's autobrake system was left disarmed by the crew for added manual braking control on touchdown. The airplane skidded through a fence on the northwest side corner of the airport, and impacted several vehicles at a busy road intersection just beyond the airport perimeter. A six-year-old boy in one of the vehicles subsequently died as a result of his injuries.
