Date: 27 August 2006
Airline: Comair
Flight No.: 5191
Aircraft: Bombardier CRJ-100ER
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Fatalities: 49:50

The aircraft (N431CA) crashed on takeoff from Lexington's Blue Grass Airport on a scheduled passenger flight to Atlanta. At 6:05am local time, the flight was cleared for takeoff on runway 22 (7003ft). The flight crew reportedly taxied the aircraft onto runway 26 (3500ft) in error, and began their takeoff roll. The CRJ was unable to attain sufficient speed for takeoff on the short runway and became airborne briefly before stalling, crashing into a field, and impacting trees about ¼ mile off the departure end of runway 26. A large post-crash fire engulfed the aircraft.
