The aircraft [N3906J] departed runway 9 at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) at 3:50pm for a cargo flight to Marsh Harbor, Bahamas with around 3,200 pounds of granite aboard. Shortly after takeoff, at an altitude of about 300ft AGL, the no.1 engine caught fire. The DC-3 variant clipped several houses and trees before crashing into a residential area on Northeast 56th Street about 3 miles east of the airport. The aircraft was consumed by fire.
