The aircraft [HS-OMG], on a domestic scheduled flight from Bangkok, crashed at 1:50pm local time while attempting to land at the resort city of Phuket in very poor weather conditions. Landing in heavy rain and wind, the MD-82's crew initiated a last second go around, but the aircraft was unable to climb, impacted the runway, and broke into several pieces, coming to rest in the grass near the runway in flames.
