The aircraft departed Berlin-Tegel Airport at 21:01 local time for a flight to Zurich-Kloten. The aircraft crashed at 22:06 local time (2106 GMT) 5.5 nautical miles short of the runway while executing a VOR/DME approach to Runway 28. The weather report at 2120 GMT, approximately 15 minutes after the accident, reported light snowfall, visibility of 4000 meters, few clouds at 600 feet with a broken layer of clouds at 1500 feet, a temperature of 33°f/1°c, and a wind from 130° at 2 knots (LSZH 242120Z 13002KT 4000 -SN FEW006 BKN015 01/M00 Q1023).
