The aircraft overran Runway 13 into Hong Kong Harbor while landing at Hong Kong's Kai Tak International Airport (now closed). The weather at the time of the accident consisted of heavy rain, and near Gale force winds. The aircraft touched down approximately 6,600 feet beyond the threshold of the 10,500 foot runway, and was unable to stop on the remaining runway. The aircraft's tail was blasted away with dynamite to allow airliners to continue using the airport as the salvage operation was underway.
