| Accident Description: | The aircraft crashed into a rock quarry at 0352 local time (0752 GMT) shortly after takeoff from Halifax runway 24 (8800ft) on a cargo flight bound for Zaragoza, Spain with a load of fish and lobster. Initial reports indicate that the aircraft's tail struck the runway for approximately the last 1,000ft of the takeoff roll, with the tail becoming separated from the fuselage upon impacting a berm at the end of the runway. Weather at the time of the accident was reported as good, with clear skies and unlimited visibility. |
